Oh, great, congratulations! I really enjoyed reading it. Plus I felt a little bit sorry for myself there weren’t opportunites like that for foreigners in China in the 1980s..
If you ever miss Chengdu – I found a site where you can browse the streets virtually (like Google Streetview). Go to http://cd.city8.com for Chengdu, but beware- it is totally addictive to roam streets you used to know. The site also features Beijing, Shanghai and many more cities.

Congrats! I haven’t read this book yet but I am just now digging in to Land of Plenty. I had a lot of fun sourcing the ingredients around Atlanta.
Thanks,
Jimmy
Congrats! Loved your book which was great prep for a trip to China I took this past winter.
Well, stiff competition in that all the other books are US-focused and bang on lots of zeitgeist issues. The only other one I’ve read is Michael Pollan’s and I think your book was substantially better than his.
I hope you win and more people read it. It’s wonderful. I’ve been a bit of an obsessive fan for a while now 😉
